2009 FISH FESTIVAL FUND - Applications Extended to March 2010
When the Johnshaven Fish Festival Management Group held their meeting last week to consider applications for grants from the Community Fund they were somewhat surprised that this year there were only two requests.

FINANCIAL BENEFITS OF FISH FESTIVAL’S SUCCESS
FOR 10 years, from 1997, the Benholm and Johnshaven Heritage Society held an annual Fish Festival sited in the harbour area which developed and increased in popularity until it was reckoned that crowds approaching 5,000 attended.

FROM DURBAN TO JOHNSHAVEN AND BACK AGAIN
in May/June, 10 people enrolled in an "Introduction to Digital Photography" class at Johnshaven Primary School. And while for many of them the course may well have remained just that –an introduction - for Geraldine McGuiness of Milnes Wynd it opened a window on the struggle for human rights and a meeting with an important member of the South African government.

Benholm Kirk is Very Much Alive
It seems a long time ago now since Benholm Kirk closed it’s doors as a place of worship in the Mearns Coastal Parish. In fact it was early in June 2004 that the Closing Service was held.

WHAT! No Greens?
The last Saturday in August played host to the 46th Annual Johnshaven and District Horticultural Society Flower Show. A squad of Horticultural Society committee members and other volunteers descended upon the Village Hall on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evenings and Saturday morning to set out tables, prepare the nosh and allow exhibitors to display their exhibits to best advantage. Then the hall was closed to the public for a few hours while the judges cast their eyes over the 333 exhibits entered by 36 Society members in 108 categories, plus a further 166 exhibits from 29 children in 27 categories.
